BANGOR, Maine — A former southern Aroostook County man will spend the next four decades in prison after being convicted in U.S. District Court of sexual exploitation of a minor and transportation of child pornography.
Police arrested and charged Jeffrey D. Swimm, 38, with the two sex crimes in April 2017. He pleaded guilty to the charges four months later.
U.S. Attorney Halsey B. Frank said that Swimm, who is originally from Monticiello, was residing in Bangor at the time of his arrest. Judge John A. Woodcock, Jr. sentenced Swimm on April 12 to 40 years in prison and supervised release for life, according to Frank.
Court records indicate that Swimm produced still-image and video files depicting child pornography between October 2012 and April 2017. Swimm admitted to agents that, over a three year period, he produced pornographic images and videos depicting multiple prepubescent minors so that he had them to trade with other people he met online. He also possessed other images and videos of child pornography depicting children under the age of 12 which he solicited and received over the internet.
The investigation that led Homeland Security Investigations agents to Swimm began after a man in Massachusetts admitted to trading child pornography online. The screen name provided by that man led agents to Swimm.
Police then executed a search warrant at Swimm’s residence in Bangor, according to the complaint. Swimm confessed to producing child pornography and to trading the images on the internet.
