EDWIN D. MOOERS SR., BUXTON – Edwin D. Mooers Sr., age 92, passed away on April 14, 2018, at his son’s home in Waterboro.
“Eddie” was born on October 27, 1925, in Ludlow, Maine, “God’s Country”, a son of the late Harry and Florence Mooers.
At the young age of 17, he moved from Northern Maine to Portland to find work. He found that work at Main Steel where he eventually met the love of his life, Annie, through a co-worker. They married in June of 1944 when Eddie was 19 and Annie was 17. He later enlisted in the US Army and served in WWII from 1944 – 1945. He then returned to US Army from 1950 – 1952 and proudly served in the Korean War. Mr. Mooers was highly decorated for his service; he received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Silver Star, and other awards of distinction. After his return, Eddie went on to work at Fairchilds in South Portland until his retirement.
He enjoyed going camping in his RV with his family, and enjoyed his Ham Radio. He enjoyed spending his time with his family, going out to dinner, Christmastime, family parties, and living life to its fullest. Besides his love of family, Eddie will always be remembered for his beautiful smile.
He is predeceased by his beloved wife, Annie Mooers in 2008; his sister, Mary Ellen Emery; his grandson, David Mooers; and his great-granddaughter, Melanie Mooers.
Edwin is survived by his sons, Edwin D. Mooers Jr. and his wife, Maxine, of Waterboro, William C. Mooers and his wife, Lorelei, of Gorham, and Carl H. Mooers and his longtime girlfriend, Karen Beaulieu, of Waterboro; his brothers, Charles Mooers and his wife, Doris, of California, and George Mooers; his sister, Sandra Bowers of NC; his seven grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren with one expected; several nieces and nephews; and special friends and neighbors, Tom and Darla.
Eddie’s family would like to thank the Hospice of Southern Maine team that cared him in his final days which made it possible for him be at home with his family.
A graveside service with US Army Honors will be held on Friday, April 20, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Evergreen Cemetery in Portland.
