PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Brush up on business basics and get on solid ground this spring with free business planning classes offered by New Ventures Maine in both Presque Isle and Caribou.
On Thursday, April 26, Clean Up Your Credit will be offered at the Fedcap Opportunity Center in the Downown Mall in Caribou. The class will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. and will help participants create a step-by-step plan to reduce debt, improve credit and maintain a good credit score.
Beginning May 2, Business Basics classes will be held at the University of Maine at Presque Isle in Pullen Hall, Room 113, Wednesday evenings from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Classes are May 2, 9, and 16. The 9-hour class covers the basics of a business plan, marketing and cash planning and is suitable for those thinking about or in the early start-up phase of a new business.
The class is open to all entrepreneurs and is suitable for those thinking about starting their own business, in the early start-up phase, or established business owners who want a refresher on planning for successful business operation or expansion.
Introduction to Self-Employment will be held on May 9 at Caribou’s Fedcap Opportunity Center from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. This one-session workshop will cover pros and cons of owning a business, startup steps, the major elements of a business plan and available resources.
All entrepreneurs interested in starting a business are welcome, along with business owners who want a refresher on planning, marketing, and financial cash flow planning.
Karin Petrin, microenterprise specialist for New Ventures Maine in Aroostook County and the trainer for the classes, said, “If you will be seeking bank financing for your business endeavor, want to reach all of your customers the first time, or just want to see if your idea will work as a business, you need a business plan. These classes will give you the foundational plan for financing, marketing, start-up, or expansion.”
