Lions plan annual auction

Looking to take a flight in a hot air balloon, need an oil change, need some new ratchet wrenches, or want a subscription to The Star-Herald? Then the 56th annual Mapleton Lions Club Auction is the place you want to be.

The event will be held on May 5 at the Mapleton Lions Hall at 6 p.m.  Club members are now completing their solicitation of nearly 400 items, gift certificates and services that will be auctioned in support of the club’s charitable activities.

President Adam Nicak of the Mapleton Lions Club explained the auction is the club’s single largest fundraising event, which produces approximately 70 percent of the club’s annual income.

Donations are always welcome.  Any club member will be willing to accept your donation for the support of Lions projects.

The traditional public ham and bean dinner will be served by the Mapleton Lions prior to the auction.  Dinner will be served from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the Mapleton Lions Hall.

The auction will begin immediately after the dinner with club auctioneers Matt Gregg and Ron Leonard.

Everyone is encouraged to come out and support the Lions in their annual fundraising evening.

Budget vote sites

The Mapleton, Castle Hill and Chapman Town Office announced the upcoming school budget vote, planned from 3 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday May 1, 2018.  Voting for Mapleton will be held at the Fire Station, in Castle Hill at the Castle Hill Grange Hall and in Chapman at the Chapman Ridge Runners’ clubhouse.

Memorial Day prep

The Mapleton Lions Club is preparing for the annual Mapleton Lions Club Memorial Day Parade and Remembrance Ceremony.

The parade will start lining up at 1:30 p.m. on Memorial Day, May 28, and will step off at 2 pm.  Please keep in mind this is a community parade.

All organizations, groups and individuals who would like to march in the parade are welcome to join in during the lineup.  To join the parade, simply report to the parade lineup area, which is the Dudley Road at the end of Main Street, and join the parade.  No reservation is necessary.

The Remembrance Ceremony will take place at the Mapleton-Chapman-Castile Hill Veterans Memorial Monument at the Mapleton Elementary School.  Everyone is welcome to attend and remember the sacrifices of the veterans from the three towns.

First Friday luncheon

The Mapleton United Methodist Church will hold its regular First Friday Luncheon on May 4 at 11:30 a.m.  The public is invited to attend.

If you have missed these luncheons, please plan to attend.  These luncheons are excellent times to meet friends and neighbors who you may not see too often.  There is no charge for the lunch but donations are accepted.

Daze craft fair

The Mapleton Daze Organizing Committee wishes to thank all who attended their craft held last Saturday at the Mapleton Lions Hall.

More than 20 crafters and vendors sold goods to those who attended.  The funds raised by the event will be used to support events and activities at Mapleton Daze, scheduled for June 27-July 1.

Organizers thanked the Mapleton Lions Club for making the Lions Hall available for Saturday’s craft fair.
