VaJoWa Golf News (week of May 2, 2018)

ISLAND FALLS, Maine —  It looks like spring has finally arrived. With several days of warmer weather and some rain showers, the grass has shown itself for the first time since November.  It appears as though Mother Nature has once again been good to us golfers as the greens have come through in nice condition. With another week of warmer weather, we should be able to think about teeing it up.

Having decided to retire from a 40-hour work week (moving into a 60-80 hour work week), I will once again be the general manager of the complete operations at VaJoWa, from the golf maintenance to the golf shop and also the Slice restaurant. I want to wish Heidi well with her new job and thank her for the past few years of helping out with the inside operations of the golf shop and restaurant.

At the Slice, Dick Lane will still be on the kitchen manager/head cook and Ashley Savage will be the head waitress and help with staffing and dining room operations. A special  thanks to Ellen and Clay Halliday and Donna Walker for helping to update the dining room decor. If you haven’t been to the Slice since the end of March, come visit. Spring hours are Thursday and Friday from 4-8 p.m. or later and Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. or later.

Most of the outside maintenance crew will be back this summer, including Bill Boulier, Phil Desmond, Rick Robinson, Clay Halliday, Gavin Vining and Hunter and Conner Walker. We are having a spring clean-up day on Saturday, May 5, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. with lunch to follow. If conditions permit, there will be a scramble golf event at 2 p.m. that day. That evening will be a Cinco de Mayo dance from 8 p.m. to midnight. Put it on your calendars.

And finally, we have held our pricing for golf memberships at $99 first year, $199 second year, and $299 third year and beyond. Feel free to send in your checks to VaJoWa, 142 Walker Settlement Road, Island Falls, ME, 04747 or stop by the course as I am there most sunny days.
