PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Presque Isle City Council has appointed County Administrator Ryan D. Pelletier to the Northern Maine Regional Airport Advisory Board.
The Aroostook County Board of County Commissioners nominated Pelletier on the recommendation of Commissioner Paul J. Underwood, who most recently served on the airport board.
The city council appoints eight directors to govern the board. Six members of the board are required to be residents of Presque Isle and the other two must be residents of Aroostook County. The County Commissioners nominate one of those residents, while the airport board nominates the other, who must represent the economic development sector.
The board’s objective is to recommend general policies and development initiatives concerning the operations of the Northern Maine Regional Airport to the department head, as well as the Presque Isle city manager and city council.
According to the board’s bylaws, each member must take an active part in the direction of the board’s activities and to act in whatever capacity he or she may be called.
“I’m looking forward to serving in this role. I think with the changes happening at the airport with a new air service beginning in July, among other things, it’s an exciting time to be assisting in the direction that the airport is heading,” said Pelletier.
“The airport plays a vital role in the overall economic development of The County and we need to make sure we are capitalizing on opportunities to their fullest potential,” he said. “I hope I can bring some regional perspective to the board and assist in that capacity.”
Pelletier, who has 20 years of regional government and economic development experience, resides in St. Agatha.
