CARIBOU, Maine — Most people may not have time to write a 30,000- to 60,000-word novel, but the Caribou Public Library will offer a chance to write on a smaller scale.
The library will host a microfiction storytelling event on Tuesday, May 22, at 5 p.m. in the Piper Reading Room. Participants are challenged to write a fictional story in 200 words or less, and will be invited to read their stories at the event.
Those who have a story but are unable to attend may deliver their story to the library via email, or in person during regular hours, and a staff member will read the story during the event.
Microfiction tells a story in fewer words with the same elements as a standard storyline: a beginning, a middle and an end. Also known as flash fiction, the technique has found its place in modern circles of literature.
