Va Jo Wa Golf (week of May 16, 2018)

Nice weather prevails and golfers are flocking to the course to enjoy its terrific early season conditions. Golf carts available for all holes and the wet areas are drying fast. Upcoming this week on Sunday, May 20, at 3 p.m. we will have our first couples and odd couples golf.  Bring your partner or come as a single and we will match you up for this fun-filled nine hole event.

On Thursday, May 17, at 5:15 p.m. we will once again have a fun nine hole event open to all.  This week will be a two-person scramble. The entry fee is $5 and includes closest to the pin on both par threes.

Results from last week’s Thursday two-person better ball were first, Phil Desmond and Clay Halliday with a 34; second, Parker and Steve Walker with 37: and third, Chico McAuliffe and Benny Weed with 38. Pin winners were Halliday, 18 feet, 5 inches on hole No. 4 and Steve Walker, at 6-10 on hole No. 7.

On Memorial Day, Monday, May 28, we will be having a mixed scramble in memory of long time member Greg Douglas who lost his battle to cancer this winter. Douglas was a great member who participated in most club events and was fun to be around. He will be missed very much as we honor him and other past members. The event will have a 10 a.m. shotgun start as we honor him and other past members.  Hope to see you there.

The slice at Va Jo Wa restaurant has been busy. Belated happy Mother’s Day to all, and thank you to Donna for donating desserts to all mothers who enjoyed a meal at the Slice on their special day. The Slice hours are still 4-8 on Thursday and Friday and 11-8 on Saturday and Sunday.  Expanded hours will start on Memorial Weekend.
