DURHAM, NC – Aaron Matthew Plourde, born June 16, 1979, died peacefully in his sleep in the early morning hours of Saturday, May 12th, 2018, after a year-long battle with pancreatic cancer.
Aaron was born and raised in Caribou, Maine. He was an outstanding three sport athlete at Caribou High School and was also active in the Drama Club. Aaron spent his childhood making friends, enjoying family excursions, picking potatoes, skiing, snowmobiling, and enjoying the natural beauty of Aroostook County.
He studied Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of Maine in Orono, and there met his soon to be wife, Julia. They married in 2004 in Camden, Maine, and then moved to North Carolina to start a life together. They have spent the last 16 years building a family, a home, a couple of chicken coops, and many dear friendships.
Aaron spent nearly a decade working in communications at the NC School of Science and Mathematics, and most recently worked with the global health NGO, Advance Access and Delivery. Aaron was a builder by nature, and one of the hardest working men you’d ever meet. He loved baseball, American history, and the feeling of sunshine on his face. He had a kind heart, an infectious sense of humor, and was loved by all who knew him.
Aaron will be forever missed by his parents, John David Plourde and Alverna Mae (Belanger) Plourde of Sanford, NC; his sister, Allison Marie Plourde Fortier of Nashua, NH; his loving wife, Julia Lane Monley Plourde of Durham, NC; his children, Connor Matthew Plourde of Caribou, ME; Nora Beverly Plourde and Maddox Wilder Plourde of Durham, NC; and an immense community of extended family and friends.
Visiting hours with the family will be held on Sunday, May 20th, 2018, from 12 to 4 p.m. at their home, 5014 Green Oak Drive, Durham, NC 27712.
