CARIBOU, Maine – Eugene H. Merchant passed away on May 2, 2018, at a VA Hospital in Tennessee. He was born on November 8, 1940, in Connor, the son of Henry and Gertrude (Damboise) Merchant.
Eugene served in the U.S. Army where he had 21 years of Military Service. During that time he served in Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He attended the University of Maryland for one year. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and motorcycle riding, and was a life time member of the VFW and DAV.
Eugene is survived by his daughter, Debra Fordham and her husband, Harry Fordham; two grandchildren, Torrie and Ryan Fordham; and one great-grandchild, Mason Pope, all of Clarksville, TN; five siblings, Leon Merchant of Caribou, ME, Carolyn Nadeau of Attleboro, MA, David Merchant of Crossville, TN, Henry “Hank” Merchant of Camden, ME, and Susan Merchant of Caribou, ME.
He was predeceased by his wife, Robertine (Nedeau) Merchant, and his son, Eugene Clearance Merchant.
Friends and family may call from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. on May 17, 2018, at Lancaster Morgan Funeral Home, 11 Clover Street, Caribou. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on May 18, 2018, at Holy Rosary Church, Parish of the Precious Blood, Caribou. Interment with military honors will be held at Old Holy Rosary Cemetery, Caribou, following the service.
