Being a non-profit, we at the Central Aroostook Humane Society rely a great deal on our fundraising efforts to help keep our doors open and the County animals well taken care of until they each find a family of their own.
One fundraiser that we have going on right now is our shoe drive, which runs for just a couple more weeks. By collecting shoes, the shelter will receive a check at the end of the drive, depending on how many gently used shoes we collect. You can help by checking out your closet and letting us know if you have any to donate. Contact us at 764-3441.
Here’s another way you and your family can help: Since most teens have to fulfill community service hours to graduate from high school, getting them involved in our fundraiser is an excellent way to help them earn their community hours. In a shoe drive fundraiser, almost anyone can get involved — including kids and teens. They have the opportunity to ask their friends, family, and community for gently worn, used and new shoes.
Including teenagers helps develop their leadership and community involvement skills and also the pride and knowledge that they have helped the homeless animals of their area.
Mark your calendar: On June 2, the Central Aroostook Humane Society will hold our popular annual Paws for the Cause fundraiser. Registration will start at 9:30 a.m. and the Walk will begin at 10. This event brings pet owners and their pets from all over The County and beyond to enjoy a two-mile walk, some tasty snacks and great camaraderie with other four-legged fans.
Many dogs that attend the event are pets that started their journey at the Central Aroostook Humane Society, and come back every year with their families to support the shelter.
We hold the event rain or shine, but I think we all prefer “shine.”
Pledge sheets are available on our Facebook page, so print one out and check with all your family and friends to help support you in your walk. We usually see over 50 walkers with dogs of every size, color, age and shape.
We are excited to present various “awards” given out the end based on category. Proceeds from this fun event greatly help out with the everyday care of the shelter pets. Unbelievably, the shelter has been doing the Paws for the Cause Walk for 20 years!.We can’t express enough how grateful we are to have the continued support of not only the generous folks, but all the wonderful four-legged fans of the Central Aroostook Humane Society. We hope to see everyone there June 2.
(One note: the rabies clinic is unavailable this year.)
Happy spring, everyone, from all of us at the Central Aroostook Humane Society.
