PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The SAD 1 athletic department will offer its annual basketball and soccer camps this summer.
The Wildcat Basketball Camp will be held June 11-15 at Presque Isle High School and is for students currently in grades 2-7. Varsity coaches Terry Cummings and Jeff Hudson will serve as co-directors. Their staff will include other coaches and current and former Wildcat players.
Youngsters in grades 2-4 will play from 5-7 p.m. each day, with grades 5-7 going from 7-9 p.m. The cost is $60 per student, with discounts given to families with two or more players.
Fundamentals in all phases of the game will be stressed. There will be drills, individual competitions and team games. The emphasis will be on sportsmanship and having fun while learning the game.
The school department also will offer its annual soccer camp July 16-20.
The Wildcat Soccer Camp will be held at the Presque Isle Middle School turf field and is for students entering Pre-K through eighth grade for the 2018-19 school year.
Girls and boys in Pre-K to grade 1 plus beginning players in grade 2 will meet from noon-1 p.m. Grades 2-5 will attend from 1-3 p.m. each day, with grades 6-8 going from 3-5 p.m.
The cost is $30 per student for the younger division and $60 for the two older divisions.
Presque Isle boys varsity coach Joe Greaves leads the camp, which will introduce young players to the fundamentals of the game and help more experienced players improve their skills. Drills, individual competitions and team games will all be incorporated during the camp. Every participant will receive a Wildcat soccer T-shirt.
