Three Caribou players received seeds for the upcoming Maine Principals’ Association Tennis Singles Championships.
The tournaments are for the top 48 players in the state, who all qualified at regional events held earlier this month.
The opening rounds of the tourney will be played May 25 and 26 at Deering Oaks Park in Portland. The semifinals and championship matches will be held May 28 at Bates College in Lewiston.
For girls, senior Gabrielle Marquis is seeded fourth and senior Ashley Matlock 11th, while sophomore Parker Deprey is the sixth ranked boys player.
Marquis will take on the winner of the match between unseeded players Emma Wadsworth of Maranacook and Elise Linn of Hampden Academy on Friday, May 25, at 3:15 p.m. Matlock will play the winner of the match between Lauren Paradise of Portland and Claudia Alverez Fernandez of Maine Central Institute at 4:30 p.m.
For the boys, Deprey takes on either Connor Lee of Bangor or Sean Tenney of Cony at 4:30 p.m.
Five other Aroostook County players are unseeded and have matches on the morning of May 25.
In girls matches Sarah Pelletier of Fort Kent takes on Roslynn Wailus of Lewiston at 9:45 a.m., while Hailey Holmquist of Caribou squares off against John Bapst’s Becca Johnson at 12:30 p.m.
The Pelletier-Wailus winner plays unseeded Katie Gilman of Cape Elizabeth in the second round at 3:15 p.m., while the Holmquist-Johnson winner gets No. 10 Anastasia Kapothanasis of Cheverus at 5:45 p.m.
On the boys side, Gabe Rand of Caribou meets up against Weston Goodwin of Freeport at 8:30 a.m., Alec Cyr of Caribou faces William Nicholas of Yarmouth at 9:45 a.m. and Andre Daigle of Presque Isle plays Kobe Tibbetts of Madison, also at 9:45 a.m.
The Rand-Goodwin winner will draw No. 1 Nick Forester of Falmouth at 2 p.m. Unseeded Ben St. Laurent of Lewiston awaits the Cyr-Nicholas winner for a second-round match at 3:15 p.m. The winner of the match between Daigle and Tibbetts gets No. 12 Aidan Treutel of Cheverus at 3:15 p.m.
