WASHBURN, Maine — A new Dollar General store is under construction in Washburn, bringing another retail option and another taxpayer to the town.
Soderberg Construction has started groundwork for the new Dollar General store on a town-owned lot at the intersection of Main Street and Gardner Creek Road.
The Tennessee-based discount chain received approval from Washburn’s Planning Board for the conceptual design of the store last October.
According to Washburn town manager Donna Turner, the construction work will involve re-routing a sewer line and also adjusting the route of the multi-use trail that currently runs through the property.
Dollar General is the country’s largest discount chain, with some 14,000 stores in 44 states, including 14 in Maine.
