Rocking on Riverside begins Thursday in Presque Isle

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Presque Isle Downtown Revitalization Committee and the City of Presque Isle will kick off the 2018 Rocking on Riverside Concert Series on Thursday, May 31, at 6 p.m. with the band Common Crossing.

The six-concert series will take place every other week, ending on Aug. 9.

“There is definitely a lot of excitement and anticipation this year,” said Kim Smith, city public information officer.

Smith said she feels part of the excitement arises from a new layout and an inflatable acoustic band shell.  The Presque Isle Police Department provided the shell, which they purchased with unclaimed drug money. The clamshell design is 43 feet across the front.

The new venue design will feature the band shell on the grass near the Pavilion. The beer garden will move underneath the Pavilion, while children’s activities will take place on the grass north of the band shell.

Smith said more than 20 vendors have signed up for the concert series to date.
