LAWRENCE WARD, HOULTON – Lawrence Ward, 86, passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2018, at a Houlton hospital. He was born on November 3, 1931, in Houlton, the son of Robert O. and Helen M. (McSheffery) Ward. Lawrence grew up in Ludlow and graduated from Houlton High School in 1950. He went to work at Coles Express and then was drafted by the US Army. He served for two years, in Pittsburg, PA. Upon his honorable discharge he returned to Houlton to continue working at Coles Express. After working for Coles for twenty eight years he went to work for longtime friend Darrell McGuire & Sons. Lawrence married Josephine Miller on January 24, 1955, and together would raise their three children, Brenda, Randy, and Steve. Lawrence was a member of The Oddfellows. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, four wheeling, and going to camp. He enjoyed these times most when they were shared with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Josephine Ward of Houlton, a daughter Brenda Stewart and her husband, Mark, of Bow, NH, and their children Joshua and his wife Jordan, Zac and his wife Sasha, Nathaniel Stewart, a son Randy Ward and his wife Sally of Hodgdon and their children: Jolene Wallace and her husband Jesse, Josh Ledger and his wife Amanda, Kylie Cleaves and her husband James, a son Steven Ward and his wife Jodie of Houlton, and their children Ben, Brandon, and Elizabeth Ward, as well as eight great grandchildren. He also leaves behind a brother Arnold Ward and his wife Anne of New Hampshire, two sisters: Mary Roski and her husband Fred and Joyce Hannington both of Brewer, a sister-in-law Shirley Ward of Houlton, a brother-in-law Dale Miller, two sisters-in-law: Joan Faulkner and Sharon Nason all of Connecticut, along with several nieces and nephews and a special friend Kelli Bishop. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother James Ward.
Friends may call at 1 p.m. on Friday, June 1, 2018, at Dunn Funeral Home where a memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Wayne Robertson officiating. Interment with military honors will take place immediately following at Evergreen Cemetery, Houlton. The family welcomes relatives and friends to a celebration of life at the John Millar Civic Center, 94 Randall Ave., Houlton, following the interment.
