Library plans raffle, crafts, bike program

Events happening at the Walter T. A. Hansen Memorial Library in Mars Hill include the following: pre-planning funeral arrangements with Doug Hunter on Wednesday, May 30, from 2 to 4 p.m.

The library is raffling a basket of goodies just right for that graduate who will be going off to college in the fall. There are towels and snacks, notebooks and laundry soap.  It will also include a small microwave — just right for a dorm room. Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5 and are available at the library.

A Princess and Pirate Party will be held at the library on Saturday, June 9, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon.

A rock painting craft night will take place on Monday, June 18, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.  Join us as we paint rocks to hide around town for folks to find and re-hide.

The library will hold a Lego party on Saturday, July 14, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon.  Anyone with Legos that they are willing to donate to the library should call 429-9625.

A Mad Hatter Tea Party will be held on Saturday, July 28 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon.

The library is doing Bikes for Books again this summer.  For more information, contact the library at 429-9625.

Rotary Club

The Mars Hill Rotary Club met on Tuesday, May 22, at 6:30 a.m. at the Aroostook Health Center.

The guest speaker was Pastor Richard McLaughlin of North Amity Baptist Church, who spoke about “Water for the World,” a partnership between the Next Leadership Association and Friendly Water for the World.

The organization works to bring clean water to areas around the world such as India and Africa.  They bring the materials to make BioSand Water Filters that will remove 98.5 percent of bacteria, 100 percent of worms, 100 percent of protozoa and 99 percent of viruses and harmful heavy metals.  The filter is made of steel and will contain a screen and materials from fine sand down to a rock base.

Dirty water poured into the top of the filter takes three days to process, but will process up to 300 gallons of fresh, clean water a day.  They also teach the people how to periodically clean the filters, which can last up to 30 years.

For more information, contact Pastor Rick at 207-694-1003, go to waterforthe world@nextleader.org or info@friendlywater.net.
