ISLAND FALLS, Maine — Beautiful weather and great golf were enjoyed by all this Memorial Weekend. The course and the restaurant were busy. The staff did a nice job of prepping the course.
There was a large turnout for the Memorial Day Scramble paying tribute to past members and this year’s special honoree Greg Douglas. Sara and the “boys”, Steven and Matthew along with special friend Linda Steeves made up one foursome of many who enjoyed the day of fellowship and golf. Results will be posted next week.
In couples golf on Sunday, the team of Ricky Bates, Ralph and Valerie Powers finished first with a two under par 34. Second place went to Tom Ryan, Peter and Carol Blood with a 35. Also at 35, finishing third by matching cards, were Becky Kelley, April Bates and Greg Gayne. In fourth place were Stu Kelley, John Porter and Steven and Sara Douglas with 36.
Again next Sunday will be another couples event open to all starting at 3 p.m.
The Thursday evening event this week was a points game. Finishing first with 9 points was Warren Walker with 9, second went to Clay Halliday with 6 and third was Phil Desmond with 4.
Closest to the pin winners were Warren on No. 4 at 21 feet, 6 inches and Clay on No. 7 at 24-11. Plan to play this week by assigning up by 5:15 p.m.
The signup sheet for Twilight League is up and is scheduled to start on Tuesday , June 12. Get you team signed up. If you haven’t played in this weekly event, this is the year to do so.

First gross went to Scot Walker, Steve Merry, Brandon McCarthy at 61; second gross was the team of Bill Boulier, Alston Crandall, Clay Halliday and Warren Walker, 62; and third gross was the team of Ricky Bates, April Bates, Scott Savage and Kim Savage, 72.
First net was the team of Stuart Kelley, Becky Kelley, Bev Osborn and Greg Gayne; second net was Bill Hollis, Rick Robinson and Joey Bishop; and third net Sara Douglas, Steven Douglas, Matthew Douglas and Linda Steeves.
The slice at Va Jo Wa had a busy weekend and now open daily Monday through Thursday from 4 to 8 or later and Friday Saturday and Sunday opening at 11am until 9pm, 8 on Sunday. The Slice is now offering draft beer as well as all your other favorite beverages.
