CARIBOU, Maine — Relay For Life of Aroostook this year shifts to a daytime format while keeping firmly focused on its mission to celebrating cancer survivors, remembering those lost to cancer and fighting back against the disease.
The annual Relay, slated for Saturday, June 16, at Caribou High School, is one of more than 5,200 around the world benefiting the American Cancer Society and its fight against the disease.
The 12-hour event will feature fun, food and friendship and is geared to people of all ages. Teams of family, friends co-workers and neighbors will take turns walking around a track, joining fun activities or relaxing at a campsite. The public is welcome.
Opening ceremonies will start at 11 a.m.
The schedule is as follows.
11: 30 a.m. -1 p.m.: Family Fitness Fun, sponsored by Cary Medical Center’s Healthy You.
1-3 p.m.: Band No Pressure; kids make crafts to give to cancer survivors.
3-4 p.m.: Talent hour.
4-5 pm: Fight Back Ceremony with karate and Nitzsu demonstrations.
5 p.m.: Parade of area queens.
5:30 p.m.: Parade of teams.
6 p.m.: Survivor ceremony with speaker; Survivor Walks and Caregiver Walks.
6:30 p.m.: Survivor reception.
8-9 p.m.: Dance Fit with Cassandra Davenport.
9:30 p.m.: Luminaria ceremony.
11 p.m.: Closing ceremony.
