The Presque Isle Wildcats closed out the track and field season Saturday by competing in the Class B state championships, held in Dover-Foxcroft.
The PI girls posted 14 points in the meet, taking 17th place out of 26 teams. The Wildcat boys scored three points, placing 25th out of 28. The teams were under the leadership of Randy Himes, in his first season as the team’s coach.
Junior Kamryn Gilmour earned eight of her team’s points by taking second place in the 1,600-meter race walk. Her finishing time was 9 minutes and 9.29 seconds. Senior Madelyn Wing was the other point scorer as she took third in the javelin with a throw covering 110 feet, 10 inches. She also competed in the shot put.
Other Presque Isle girls who qualified for the meet were Maggie Castonguay (100-meter hurdles, 300 hurdles and 4×400 relay), Libby Moreau (100 dash, 300 hurdles, high jump and 4×400 relay), Madison Jandreau (1,600 and 3,200 runs), Clara Kohlbacher (4×400 relay), Isabelle Jackson (4×400 relay).
In the boys’ meet, junior Trace Cyr accumulated all his team’s points, earning two in the 200 dash by placing sixth in 23.64 seconds and another in the 400 dash by taking seventh in 52.24 seconds. He also competed in the 100 dash and was on the team’s 4×400 relay team.
Also qualifying for the state meet were Ben Ryan (110 hurdles, long jump and 4×100 relay), Conner Michaud (110 hurdles, 300 hurdles and 4×100 relay), Jacob Devine (110 hurdles), Max Bartley (1,600 run), Drew Cameron (4×100 and 4×400 relays), Colby Carlisle (300 hurdles and 4×100 relay), William Bridges (4×400 relay) and Kyler Caron (triple jump and 4×400 relay).
The Greely girls and the York boys captured the team championships.
