HOULTON, Maine – James W. Young, 97, passed away on June 9, 2018, at home with family. He was born on November 17, 1920, to William and Elizabeth (Kitchen) Young in Houlton.
Jim was a member of Local 340 teamsters Union, was a long-haul trucker up and down the East coast for 50 years. He was an active member of the Houlton Odd Fellows, holding several offices over many years. He was a WWII veteran, serving in Europe, and was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed bowling and playing cribbage with family and friends.
He is survived by three sons, Carl and his wife, Rebecca, of Fort Fairfield, Vaughn and his wife, Hanni, of Oak Ridge, NJ, and Gregory of Houlton; a daughter, Patricia Young of Houlton; five grandchildren, Alison Stone and her husband, Damon, of Houlton, Audrey Lonsway and her husband, Peter, of Ashburn, VA, Gabriel Young of Oak Ridge, NJ, Gwen Becker of Long Island, NY, and Brian Becker and his wife, Erica, of Pembroke Pines, FL; six great-grandchildren, Jeremy, Joely and Janey Stone of Houlton, Ridge and Traver Lonsway of Ashburn, VA, and Nicolas Becker of Pembroke Pines, FL. Jim was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Opal A. Young (Wilcox).
Friends may call from 12 – 1 p.m. on Friday, June 15, 2018, at Bowers Funeral Home, 10 Water Street, Houlton, where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. with Pastor Greg Jackson officiating.
