TERRYVILLE, CT – William Henry McClay, 86, of Terryville, CT, formerly of Mars Hill, ME, beloved husband of Ardith (Henderson) McClay, passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2018, with his family by his side. Born in Mars Hill on March 15, 1931, son of the late James and Alma (Boyd) McClay; he graduated from Mars Hill High School in 1948. He attended Aroostook State Teachers College and graduated from the University of Maine at Orono. He later completed a master’s degree.
He enlisted in the US Army in 1952 and proudly served his country during the Korean War until being honorably discharged in 1954. He was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge and the Presidential Unit Citation. He taught Biology at Thomaston High School, retiring with 35 years of service.
Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, Bruce A. McClay (Connie) of Shoreview, MN, Carlo J. McClay (Lisa) of Baldwinsville, NY, and Joel K. McClay (Mary) of Terryville, CT; his grandchildren, Matthew (Amy), Katie, Jenna; Brandon and Sara McClay, and great-granddaughters, Emma and Sadie; his brothers, Vail McClay (Anna) of Southington, Richard McClay (Dottie) of Easton, ME, and Sterling McClay (Connie) of Sutton, MA; his sister, Mary Fields (Wendell) of Westfield, ME, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Jackie Beals.
Burial will take place on Saturday, June 16th 2018, at 10 a.m. at the Littleton Cemetery followed by a memorial service at the Littleton Baptist Church. The Bowers Funeral Home is caring for the arrangements.
