CARIBOU, Maine — Young athletes from throughout Aroostook County will converge at Caribou High School Tuesday, June 26, for the annual Maine Recreation Parks Association track and field northern regionals.
Matt Bouchard, the director of recreation for the Caribou Parks and Recreation Department and director of the regional meet, said he expects about 300 youths for the competition, which begins at 10 a.m.
It is for youth between the ages of 7 and 15 and local communities participating are Ashland, Caribou, Easton, Fort Fairfield, Fort Kent, Houlton, Limestone, Madawaska, Mars Hill, Presque Isle, Washburn and Woodland.
Girls and boys will participate separately in events such as 50-meter dash (for 7-10 year olds), 100-meter dash (all age groups), 1,600-meter run (ages 11-15), 400-meter dash (all age groups), 800-meter run (all age groups), 200-meter dash (all age groups), 4×100-meter relay (ages 7-14), standing long jump (all age groups) and the softball throw (all age groups).
Age groups are 7-8, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-15.
The top four individuals and relay teams earn the right to compete in the state meet, to be held in Bangor’s Cameron Stadium Tuesday, July 10.
