CARL C. HUTCHINSON, MONTICELLO – Carl Charles Hutchinson, born January 15, 1931 in Monticello, Maine, to Charles Howard Hutchinson and Lottie (Wotton) Hutchinson, passed away on June 13, 2018 at the TAMC Aroostook Health Center in Mars Hill, Maine, following a period of declining health.
Carl attended schools in Monticello and graduated from Ricker Classical Institute in 1950 and earned an associate degree in Business from Ricker College in 1952. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.
Carl farmed for many years in partnership with his father and later in his career also worked for Monticello Potato Shippers and for his cousin Raymond Wotton. After retirement he enjoyed woodworking and gardening at his home in Monticello. He also shared his wife Nancy’s interest in genealogy, tracing his paternal lines to some of the original Dutch settlers of New York and the Hutchinsons to Yorkshire, England. He was a member of the Southern Aroostook Agricultural Museum.
Carl lived in Monticello his entire life, raised his family there and served the community in many capacities. He was a life time member of the Monticello Volunteer Fire Department,served on the Town Planning Board and as a board member and Vice President of the Monticello Housing Corporation. He was also a former member of the Monticello Kiwanis Club.
He was predeceased by an infant brother in 1938 and his wife of 56 years Nancy (Russell) Hutchinson in 2013. He is survived by his brother Jerry & sister-in-law Dianne Hutchinson of Houlton, his four daughters; Carla Hutchinson of Portland, Jan Winkler and her husband Paul Winkler of Bangor, Frances Hutchinson and her husband Stephen Patriquen of London, England and Jill Sewell and her husband Guy Frederick Sewell of Monticello; grandchildren Rebecca Winkler-Barrera and her husband Oscar Barrera of Bangor, Sarah (Winkler) Small and her husband Aaron Small of Carmel, Frances Sewell of Pollack Pines, CA, Elizabeth Sewell of Monticello and grandson Jeremy Kervin and his wife Christy Kervin of Pepperell, MA; great grandchildren Ozara and Charles Barrera of Bangor, Christopher Small of Carmel and Emma and Jack Kervin of Pepperell, MA.
He is also survived by brothers in law George F. Russell of Houlton and Paul W. Russell and his wife Patricia of West Allis, Wisconsin, sisters in law Frances R. Way and her husband Robert of Moore Haven, Florida and Susan R. Couch of Bristol, CT and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family appreciated the support of the TAMC Aroostook Medical Center palliative care unit and would like to especially thank the team at the Acute Rehabilitation unit at TAMC in Presque Isle for their wonderful care and attention to Carl over the past month, as he sought to recover from the effects of a stroke.
Relatives and friends may call 5-7 PM Friday June 15, 2018 at Dunn Funeral Home. A service will be conducted at 11 AM Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Wayne Robertson officiating. Interment with military honors will take place immediately following the service at Jewell Cemetery, Monticello. The family invites relatives and friends to a reception following the interment with details of location to be provided.
