ISLAND FALLS, Maine — What a beautiful weekend it was. As the summer has arrived, the activities at the course have picked up. The greens are starting to pick up some speed and are rolling smoother after the recent topdressing. Welcome to all the new members who have joined over the last few weeks and welcome back to our summer residents. We hope you all enjoy a great summer at the course.
The Father’s Day Scramble was held on Saturday and the team of Tim Thoreson, Steve Merry, and Ethan and Scot Walker sizzled with a gross score of 61. A tie for second gross with a 66 went to Micah Sawyer, Clay Halladay, Matt and Dick Kelley and the team of Dalton Cloney, Rob Brooks, Garth Townsend Jr. and Sr.
On the net side, another Walker team of Steve and his three sons, Parker, Hunter, and Conner were low with a 53.2. Finishing close behind were Scott and Kim Savage, with April and Rick Bates with 54.6. Third net went to Bethany and Josh Tucker, Jill and Brandon McCarthy at 56.7.
Closest to the pin winners were Scot Walker on No. 7 at 1-foot, 8-inches and No. 16 at 22-8. Parker Walker was closet on No. 4 at 20-5 and No. 11 at 17-10. A nice pay day for both of them!
A large group enjoyed the pairs and spares Sunday afternoon scramble. Finishing first with a 35 were Dick Kelly, Peter Blood, Terry Pettengill and April Bates. Two teams tied for second with 36 (Ricky Bates, Carol Blood, Mike and Joy Ivey and the team of Peter Lawlor, Greg Gayne, and Jarice Kelley). Fourth place with a 37 were Ted Pettengill, Brent Kelley, Sara Douglas, and Valerie Powers. Rounding out the top five with 38 were Ralph Powers, Candy Kelley, John and Deb Porter. They will again next Sunday at 3 p.m. Make plans to join them.
The Thursday Points game was rained out this week. It will be played this week at 5:30 p.m. and anyone who participates will receive a buy one get one free appetizer coupon at The Slice valid that night only.
Tuesday evening Twilight League has started with two more teams than last year. Steve Merry started of the season with great flare by scoring a hole in one on No. 7 and shooting a blistering 33. Look out for that new team of he and golf course superintendent Russ Toothaker. Other good scores were Mike Ivey 45, Scot Walker 37, Joe Bishop 46 (that handicap will be dropping), and Stu Kelley 39.
