Soccer officials sought for new season

CARIBOU, Maine — The Northern Maine Board of Approved Soccer Officials is seeking local men and women to become certified officials for the upcoming season.

“If you like being outside and involved in youth sports, officiating soccer is a great way to do that,” said Ryan Guerrette, who serves as secretary/treasurer for the NMBASO.

Citing a shortage of officials in Aroostook County, Guerrette said a push to recruit newcomers is underway.

“No experience is needed, although if you have played, coached or been involved with soccer, it definitely helps,” Guerrette said. “The board will work with candidates to help them learn the rules and develop their needed skills to be an official.”

A clinic for anyone interested in becoming a soccer official is being held Saturday, July 28 from 8:40 a.m.-3 p.m. at the ski building located on the Caribou High School campus.

The cost is $40, payable at the time of the clinic.
