PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Presque Isle Elks will host their annual Fourth of July celebration at Riverside Park in Presque Isle, to include free hot dogs, a classic auto show, live music and activities for kids.
“Riverside Park in Presque will be the place where every young family will want to celebrate July 4th this year,” said Tai Ireland, exalted ruler of Presque Isle Elks Lodge 1954.
“Not only will the Elks Lodge be hosting its annual Independence Day community celebration, the city of Presque Isle will have its brand-new splash pad in operation at the south end of the park,” said Ireland.
As in previous years, the Elks will grill hot dogs and serve them free of charge to the public, starting at 11:00 a.m. A variety of chips, popcorn, drinks, watermelon and shaved ice will be served as well.
“The Good Ole Boys and Girls,” featuring Paula Gura, Larry Adams, Jennifer Holmes, Ron DeMerchant, Darren McLaughlin, Kevin McLaughlin and Shawna McLaughlin will return to play a variety of country, pop and rock music. The group was a hit at the July 4th gathering last year.
Riverside Drive will feature the Elks’ annual car show, which has become a popular event for car enthusiasts throughout Aroostook and western New Brunswick, Ireland said.
As in previous years, registration will begin at 10 a.m. and is free. Participating owners will receive a commemorative gift. Trophies will go to the top vehicle in each class. Elks will give a People’s Choice award and trophy for the Best in the Show.
“With free games and contests for young children, as well as bounce houses and the ever-popular Elks dunking booth on hand, there should be something for everybody,” Ireland stated.
