It has been an exciting week at Houlton Community Golf Course. The weather has been great and the course is loving it. And speaking of that, I want to thank the volunteers again for last weeks work and let you know it is really appreciated. You should hear some of the wonderfully positive comments that have been received by the clubhouse staff. You have done such a productive job that we are contemplating another day with a couple projects. Keep an eye here for more details.
The Golf for Life program is finished for this year, so we will have more new golfers on the course. Plans are being made for a GFL / Member Sunday Scramble, date to be determined. The junior golf clinic has begun and runs Monday mornings. Remember, these new golfers are the future for our course.
The Men’s Twilight League is almost at its midpoint and standings are within a few points top to bottom. Our Ladies Association played a scramble on Tuesday, with 22 players followed by a potluck dinner.
Winners were the team of Sarah Howland, Liz Grant, and Rachel Anderson. Second place went to Brittany Benn, Ethel Mersereau, and Sharon O’Donnell. Third place winners were Margaret Hill, Carla McPartland, and Pam Mailman. Congrats to you all.
And finally this week, HHS Alumni Association Scramble was held on Saturday. The nine-hole, four-person handicap event was won by the team of Jason and Jed Gilpatrick, Pam Mailman, and Karen Gallop with net of 23.2. Second place went to Randy and Brent Lincoln, Sharon O’Donnell, and Brian Gardner, 23.6. Third place winners were Mitch and Logan Holmes, Drew Marino, and Ryan Brewer, scoring 25.2. Congratulations to all 14 teams, as this was a win for the HHS Alumni scholarship fund.
The Lakeside Restaurant has been very busy this week, with a couple of high school reunions. With Houlton being down one restaurant, this is a good time to venture out to the course to try the delicious food and unique ambience. I suggest you call Nancy at 694-9494 to make reservations. While walk-ins are invited, they are sure to be booked this week. And coming at the end of this month will be another entertaining night with Paul La Pointe. Paul will perform on July 27.
Another week of warm weather predicted, so the course is calling. Can’t getaway for several hours? Bring your clubs, rent a one of our new power carts and play nine holes in less than two hours. Hope I will see you on the course.
