ISLAND FALLS, Maine — What beautiful warm summer days we are enjoying. The heat and humidity are making the new seed on the greens grow and fill in the few lone spots as needed. Word has it that we are the best conditioned golf course north of the Bangor area. Take time to thank Russ and his crew for the nice job they are doing.
We are still offering a $99 first year membership for the entire 2018 season. Call the shop or stop in for details.
In couples golf, Sara Douglas, Stu and Becky Kelley finished first with a 34. Second place went to Jon Smallwood, Cecil Hanson, Brent and Candy Kelley at 38. In third place with a 41 were Bev Osborn, Greg Gayne, and John and Deb Porter. Wrapping up the top four with a 42 were Valerie and Ralph Powers and Peter and Carol Blood.
In Twilight League this past week, the back nine played tough, as there were few good scores but lots of close matches. Stu Kelley shot a nice 39 and his partner Jon Smallwood had a 45. Phil Desmond also had a 45. Pin winners were Scot Walker on No. 11 at 11-feet, 3-inches and Clay Halliday on No. 16 at 16-10.
The always popular Flag Tournament will be held on July 4 with tee off before 2 p.m. Make up your own group or check in at the shop and we will do our best to get you a pairing. The format is play your own ball, add your handicap to par of 72, which gives you your target score. When you have used those allotted strokes you plant your flag where your ball lies. Tee off anytime between 7am and 3pm. Entry fee is $10 for members and $30 for non-members. Dick will be cooking out all day with sausage, hot dogs and burgers.
We are going to try out something new this week — a Friday Frolic Scramble open to both men and women. Meet at the Pro Shop between 5 and 5:30 p.m. Teams will be selected for the nine-hole event and the entry fee is just $5. All who participate will receive a “buy one, get one” coupon for an appetizer or beverage to be used that night only at the Slice. What a great way to start the weekend!
