STOCKHOLM, Maine — Hundreds came out to 4th of July parades in both Limestone and Stockholm, held at 2 p.m. and 11 a.m. respectively.
Cars were parked hundreds of feet up the road from the Main Street parade in Stockholm, held at the intersection next to the post office and town museum.
The fun began early in the morning with a Swedish pancake breakfast at the Sportsmen lodge, and a variety of vendors offered a range of refreshments throughout the day. Hundreds gathered along the Stockholm bridge as firefighters, police officers, pageant winners, and members of local military organizations paraded through the street.
The town capped off the evening with fireworks at the American Legion at nightfall.
Likewise, Limestone held events throughout the day, including a “Red, White and Blue 9-Hole Golf Tournament” at the Limestone Country Club in the morning and a “United Methodist Men’s Ham and Pancake Breakfast” 7-9 a.m..
Limestone’s parade included appearances from members of the police and fire departments, Loring Job Corps, and United Veterans of Maine. Pageant winners, Anah Shrine clowns, and representatives of a variety of local businesses also participated.
Patriotic celebrations did not end with the parade, as DJ Jake Ball played music at Albert E Michaud Park afterward while others in the park played kickball, horseshoes, and enjoyed the warm weather.
Fireworks were shot into the sky at 9 p.m. from the Grand Falls Road, ending the day’s Independence Day celebrations.
