GORHAM, Maine — Donald H. Hemphill Sr., 86, passed away on July 8, 2018, at Maine Medical Center. He was born on July 29, 1931, in Houlton, to Burns and Irene (McGann) Hemphill.
Donald attended Ricker College in Houlton before continuing his education at the Maine Teachers College in Gorham. He was a veteran of the Air Force and served from July of 1952 to July of 1956. He earned the Occupational Medal in Germany as well as the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct medal while he was in service. He married his wife, Nora, on June 2, 1962.
Along with his parents, Donald was predeceased by two brothers, Olin Hemphill and Philip Hemphill. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Nora (Sullivan) Hemphill; two daughters, Deirdre Clark and her husband, Christopher, and Mary Hemphill, one son, Donald Hemphill Jr. and his wife, Christine; two grandchildren, Madeline Clark, and Nicholas Clark and his wife, Emily; as well as two brothers, Frank Hemphill and his wife, Jessie, and Paul Hemphill and his wife, Ann Marie and family, and one sister, Doris Gagnon and family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 13, 2018, at St. Anthony of Padua Parish, 268 Brown St., Westbrook.
