CARIBOU, Maine — The Central Aroostook Panthers were crowned champions for the first time in the 12-year history of the Caribou Classic 7v7 Girls Soccer Tournament.
The round-robin event was played at Caribou High School on Saturday, July 7.
Coach Joe Levesque’s squad defeated Caribou YNWA, 4-2, in the tourney final. Kate Levesque scored two goals, while Kayla Martin and Janelle Tweedie added one each for the Panthers. Gabby Sutherland and Emily Adler netted a goal each for Caribou YNWA.
Members of the winning team included Ellen Billings, Mackenzie Blackstone, Olivia Blackstone, Brea Bradbury, Audree Burt, Maddie Coffin, Liberty Fulton, Sydney Garrison, Libby Grass, Madison Howlett, Levesque, Martin, Olivia Pelletier, Tweedie and Sara Stitham.
The runners-up Caribou YNWA team was made up of Adler, Lexi Barker, Olivia Picard, Edie Shea, Sutherland, Mia Thibodeau, Willow Whitten and Maddy Ziegler.
Fourteen squads competed, with schools represented including Fort Kent, Madawaska, Ashland, Caribou, Washburn, Fort Fairfield, Easton, Central Aroostook and Penobscot Valley of Howland. Some schools had more than one team entered.
The boys 7v7 tournament will be played this Saturday, July 14, also at Caribou High School.
