ORONO, Maine — Several organizations seek farmers’ input to create an agriculture policy platform that will truly create farmer profitability and retention. This is an effort to help steer programs accordingly and inform the next governor and legislature about what farms need for agriculture to thrive.
The UMaine Cooperative Extension, Maine Farm Bureau, Maine Sustainable Agriculture Society, MOFGA, Maine Farmland Trust, CEI, Maine Food Strategy, Good Shepherd Food Bank and Cultivating Community want to capture input from as many farmers as possible. The organizations are developing a series of activities for ag sector participants to weigh in on policy ideas. These include several town-meeting style gatherings and webinars. Organizers are looking for input from farmers on the best times to hold these meetings.
Agricultural producers may share input on best meeting times through this brief survey by July 27, 2018.
For more information on the survey and outreach, please contact Gary Anderson, UMaine Cooperative Extension, garya@umaine.edu or Maine Food Strategy at mfs@mainefoodstrategy.org.
