FORT FAIRFIELD, Maine — Presque Isle’s junior girls’ softball team prevailed in a three-team round robin tournament played Thursday as part of the Maine Potato Blossom Festival.

Girls between the ages of 8 and 12 were eligible to compete in the tourney, which was held at the Charlie Lockhart Field Thursday.

Three games were played, with Fort Fairfield defeating Presque Isle in the first contest, Presque Isle stopping Caribou in the middle game, and Caribou upending Fort Fairfield in the third.

The three squads all finished with 1-1 records, but Presque Isle was deemed the winner of the championship on a tie-breaker, which was fewest runs allowed. Fort Fairfield was the runner-up by winning the second tie-breaker, which was run differential.

The tournament originally was scheduled for Tuesday, but was rained out.

The Northern Maine Community Recreation Association tournament will be played Thursday, July 26, in Presque Isle. Five teams are expected to take part in the single-elimination event.

The tentative schedule has Presque Isle and Caribou squaring off at 8:30 a.m., Fort Fairfield taking on Mars Hill at 10 a.m. and Ashland against the Presque Isle-Caribou winner at 11:30 a.m. The championship game will be played at 1 p.m. All the games will take place at the Presque Isle High School softball field.
