CARIBOU, Maine – Virginia P. Stewart, 87, died on July 18, 2018, after a lengthy illness. She was born in Caribou on June 17, 1931, the daughter of the late George and Lillian (McIntyre) Nickerson.
Mrs. Stewart graduated from Caribou High School and married Maynard Stewart. She worked for General Foods/Birds Eye for 28 years and McCain Foods for 13 years before her retirement. She was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Catholic Golden Age.
Mrs. Stewart is survived by one son, David Lloyd and his wife, Patricia Stewart, and one daughter, Cathy Anne (Stewart) Labrenz, all of Caribou; four grandchildren, Joyce Marie Labrenz of Florida, Jamie Lynn (Labrenz) Rinker and husband, Brian, of Maryland, David Lloyd Robert Stewart of Old Orchard Beach, and Kimberly Janette Stewart of Caribou; and three great-grandchildren, Seth Rinker, and Darren and Brannon Hall, as well as several nieces and nephews and one very special friend and loyal caregiver, Pauline Emond, as well as two sisters, Frances Marie (Nickerson) and her husband, Larry McDowell, of Texas, and Evelyn Mae (Nickerson) Williams of West Virginia. Mrs. Stewart was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Maynard, one brother, George Wilford Nickerson Jr., and one sister, Phyllis Charlotte Nickerson.
Friends visited with the family at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir Street, Caribou, on Friday, July 20, 2018, from 6 – 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Saturday, July 21, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. from the Parish of the Precious Blood, Holy Rosary Catholic Church. www.mocklerfuneralhome.com
