100 Years Ago – July 24, 1918
Houlton man elected — At a meeting of the stockholders of the B and A RR Bangor, Ora Gilpatrick of this town was elected a director of the B and A RR. The vacancy which Mr. Gilpatrick filled was made by the resignation of Mr. Todd, who on account of his connection with the federal control of the railroads could not hold an office.
Houlton girls fill gap — The shortage of manpower due to the various war activities is beginning to be felt in Houlton, as up to the present time more than 255 of Houlton’s young manhood has been called to take up arms. 75 Years Ago – July 29, 1943
Resigns position — Clarence Dyer, an instructor at Ricker Junior College for 11 years, has resigned his position and is now in the research department of the Brown Instrument Co. in Philadelphia.
Money for museum — At a meeting of those interested in the project of securing the former Donworth residence on Main street as a permanent home for the Aroostook County Historical Museum, held Monday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. S. L. White, it was announced that title of the property has now passed into the hands of friends of the museum. At the same meeting it was also announced that $2,000 of the required $7,000 has already been pledged to purchase the building.
50 Years Ago – July 24, 1968
Convention — Dr. and Mrs. Milton Downing spent a week recently in New York where they attended the National Chiropractic Convention at the Americana Hotel.
Aroostook County royalty — Miss Kirsten Bell of Caribou was crowned Maine Potato Blossom Festival Queen at the coronation ceremonies held in Fort Fairfield. Janice Robertson, Miss Houlton, was second runner-up
25 Years Ago – July 28, 1993
Joins team — Charlie Jack has joined the sales team at Fogg’s Home Center and brings with him 20 years of retail experience. Charlie, who answers to ‘C.J.,’ was the kitchen and bath department manager for Somerville Lumber Co. in East Bridgewater, Mass., prior to his move to Littleton. It’s natural for C.J. to be associated with Fogg’s Home Center as he has had experience in most of the hardware and building materials business.
Celebrate anniversary — Robert and Avis Pulsifer of Silver Ridge celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with an open house July 11, given by their children, Robert and Ruth Pulsifer of Millinocket and Ina and Jim Pratt of Sherman Mills. They have six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
