HOULTON, Maine — Carmichael Masonry pulled off a dramatic 13-12 upset victory over F.A. Peabody Company Sunday evening to capture the sixth annual Houlton Ultimate Summer League flying disc championship.
Played under the lights at Bob Ruth field, Carmichael Masonry (4-4 overall) came into the HUSL tourney as the No. 4 seed. The squad pulled off an 11-10 upset over No. 1 Bond Family Roofing (4-3 overall) and then knocked off No. 2 F.A. Peabody Company 13-12 in the championship.
FAPCO, who finished with a 4-4 overall record, beat No. 3 WHOU (3-4 overall) 10-5 in the other semifinal contest.
Team members for Carmichael Masonry are Teagan Ewings, Jannelle Ross, Chris Rines, Joel Carmichael, Isaac Vega, Kirk Ward and Cole Winslow.
Team members for F.A. Peabody are, Joel Bond, Jeremy Cook, Isaiah Brown, Justin Cook, Jillian Ross, Steven Philips, William Janakis and Madelene Anderson.
HUSL games are played with a flying disc. Teams try to advance that disc, only with passes, into an endzone to score a point. If a player fails to catch the disc, the opposing team takes over possession.
In the championship, Ewings scored seven goals to lead Carmichael Masonry. Winslow and Vega each had two goals and Carmichael and Ward each had one. For FAPCO, Justin Cook led the way with six goals, Brown added four, Bond and Jeremy Cook each had one.
