FORT FAIRFIELD, Maine — What has turned into a successful fundraiser for the Maine Basketball Hall of Fame will be held for the eighth consecutive year, with Aroostook Valley Country Club hosting the Aug. 4 golf scramble.
Larry Gardner, the tourney’s director and a member of the Hall of Fame’s board of directors, said several past inductees will be on hand, including Skip Chappelle, Steve Pound, Steve Condon, Matt Rossignol, Tony Hamlin, Jim Stephenson and Tom Pelletier.
Gardner said Dwight Hunter and Bill McAvoy, two of this year’s honorees, along with the Collins family for their contribution of trophy cases that are on display on the concourse at the Cross Insurance Center, which houses the Hall of Fame.
The tournament, an Oldsmobile four-person scramble, starts with an 11 a.m. (U.S. time) shotgun start. The course straddles the U.S.-Canadian border.
The event is the Hall of Fame’s only fundraiser.
The tourney also will feature cash prizes and two hole-in-one prizes, including $10,000 cash and a 2018 Honda Civic sponsored by Griffeth Honda of Presque Isle.
An auction will be held as part of the post-tourney steak and chicken barbecue. Prizes include concert tickets, golf packages and Boston Red Sox and Boston Celtics game tickets.
The field is limited to 40 teams and the entry fee is $65 per person. Men’s, women’s and mixed divisions will be featured.
Cash prizes will be awarded to the top four teams in gross and net categories, along with a skins game.
