The annual Gwen Turner Memorial Scholarship is presented to a participant of the Aroostook Teen Leadership Camp, which was held this year in Fort Kent, where organizers named Karoline Dillenbeck of Limestone the recipient.
This scholarship is awarded to the student who exhibits strong leadership skills and outstanding school citizenship, exemplifies high moral character and is active in community involvement, according to the ATLC Advisory board which selects the winner.
Dillenbeck is a rising senior at Caribou High School and a resident of Limestone. She has been involved with ATLC for many years. She also participates in Destination Imagination and volunteers in numerous activities in her community and school. Dillenbeck is the vice president of her class and a member of the National Honor Society.
The Turner Scholarship is funded by the sons-in-law of Gwen Turner (Boyd Roope, Alan Michaud, Dana McQuade, Alton Hartt, Willie Soucy and Jim Saucier) and also by former ATLC director Jack Foster.
Gwen Turner was a head cook at SAD 1 for over 30 years and served as the head cook at the ATLC Camp for over 20 years. She was the wife of Donald Turner of Mapleton and Castle Hill
