PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Are you ready for some football?
The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department is operating an adult co-ed flag football league again this fall. An organizational meeting is planned for Wednesday, Aug. 15 at 5:15 p.m. at the Sargent Family Community Center on Chapman Street.
Team captains and individuals interested in putting together a team in this year’s league or joining a team are encouraged to attend.
Andrew Perry, director of programs for the recreation department, said last year’s league included six teams with a total of 72 participants.
“The rules mirror that of traditional football minus the contact,” Perry said.
The season begins later this month and runs through late October.
Tony Garreans of Presque Isle has been involved in the league since it began in 2009 and encourages men and women to join the program.
“It’s the last stretch of good weather before the cold winter, so it’s a chance to exercise, compete, hang out with friends, meet new people and be more than just an ‘armchair quarterback’” Garreans said. “It’s essentially a chance to get out and participate in a rec activity beyond just dropping your kids off at soccer practice.”
League dues are $275 per team. All participants must be 18 years of age or older and out of high school. Call 764-2545 or email Andrew Perry at aperry@presqueiselme.us for more information.
