Children in Mars Hill got into the spirit of the book “Alice in Wonderland” by Lewis Carroll — and even had a “Mad Hatter” experience of their own.
The Walter T.A. Hansen Memorial Library hosted a Mad Hatter Tea Party on Saturday, July 28, and invited the children to don costumes and hats to bring part of the popular book alive.
A giant teapot was on display to explore, and then children gathered in the library to enjoy refreshments.
Rotary
The Mars Hill Rotary Club met on Tuesday, Aug. 7 at 6:30 a.m. at the Aroostook Health Center.
The guest speaker was Steve Lunn with Dunn Funeral Home. He spoke of the importance of funeral planning, including timing, location, viewing and type of service. This will also let the family members know what the individual wanted in the way of a service.
People can set up a mortuary account or trust to handle funeral costs which can run from $4,000 to $10,000.
The important thing is for a family to make the service “their own”. They should do what makes them the most comfortable as they say farewell to their loved one.

Upcoming events for the week of Aug. 15-21 include: Wednesday will feature Beauty Parlor at 8:30 a.m., Noodle Fun at 9:30 a.m., Adult Coloring at 1:30 p.m. and Mars Hill United Baptist at 6:30 p.m. Thursday will feature Beauty Parlor at 8:30 a.m., Bingo at 9:30 a.m. and Patio Social at 1:30 p.m. Friday will feature Jingo at 9:30 a.m. and Patio Social at 1:30 p.m. Saturday will feature Karaoke with The Deschesnes at 1:30 p.m. Sunday will have televised church in the day room. Monday will feature Nails with Shallie and Melissa at 9:30 a.m. and Communion at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday will feature Beauty Parlor at 8:30 a.m., Bingo at 9:30 a.m. and Lunch at Boondocks at 11:00 a.m.
Music Night
Thursday Night Music is back in Bridgewater. From 6 to 9 p.m. every Thursday, stop by the Historical Building for some rousing music to dance to or just enjoy listening to.
Bingo
The William Cousins Post 118 of Mars Hill will host Bingo on Saturday evening beginning at 7 p.m. at the Post. Cash prizes and refreshments are available.
