HOULTON, Maine — On Saturday, Aug. 18, the Houlton Community Market in conjunction with the Maine Federation of Farmer’s Markets celebrated Snapshot Day. To help spread the word about the pleasures of shopping at farmer’s markets, patrons were encouraged to share their photos of the day on social media.
The rain held off allowing those on hand the chance to peruse an abundance of fresh produce, eggs, poultry, baked goods, wooden products, hand spun fibers and more. A constant flow of foot traffic cruised through the square munching on donuts, visiting with neighbors and exchanging food prep advice.
For the children, Nancy Wright had a variety of activities set up allowing them to plant and explore vegetables. A “carrot photo booth” was a big hit for picture taking. Another hit was the raffle of Market Goodies including the book, “Real Maine Food” and items donated by the vendors.
Nate Bodenstab’s name was drawn by organizers Marie Taft and Susan Bushey to put an exclamation point on the end of Houlton’s Snapshot Day.
