PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Cameron Construction neared the limit, but survived to capture the playoff championship in the Caribou-Presque Isle Co-ed Softball League.
On Aug. 15, at the Bishop’s Island Field, Cameron’s defeated National Guard in the “if necessary” game, 7-5. Jake Paradis pounded out three hits and scored three runs to lead Cameron’s. Tony Garreans and Andrew Paterson both had three hits and scored twice and Ken Cameron added three hits for the winners.
National Guard forced the extra game in the double-elimination tournament with an 11-8 victory that needed extra innings before being decided.
In that thrilling contest, Chad Lavway delivered a two-out, two-strike home run with two runners on base to tie the game in the top of the seventh before his teams scored three unanswered runs in the eighth to come out on top.
National Guard defeated the Swedes, 8-3, to reach the finals.
Ten teams competed in this summer’s league, which began May 30. Games were played in Caribou, New Sweden and Presque Isle.
The final regular season standings were as follows: Cameron Construction (12-2), Swedes (11-3), National Guard (11-3), Northern Business Products (10-4), Kofstad Agency (7-7), Progressive Realty (5-9), Maine Mutual Group (5-9), Aroostook Band of Micmacs (5-9), Just Send It (3-11) and McCain’s (1-13).
