CARIBOU, Maine — Coach Steve Perreault’s Caribou Middle School boys’ soccer team lost its opening match of the season, played Aug. 20 in Madawaska, but bounced back for a 5-3 victory at Fort Fairfield Monday.
The Owls’ size, speed and talent was too much for the Vikings as the hosts won by a score of 6-2. Madawaska scored less than a minute into the game and took a 3-0 lead into halftime. Caribou was able to get off only four shots on goal. Griffen McNeal scored an unassisted goal and Devin Wright converted off a Jude Shea assist to account for Caribou’s offense.
Dawson St. Pierre, Ty Hunter, Dylan Bouchard, Jaden Picard and Konnor Huckins were the standout offensive players for Caribou, while Eliot Sleeper, Cameron Belanger and Alex Levesque all turned in strong defensive outings.
In the most recent game, Caribou fell behind early but scored three consecutive goals early in the second half to collect its first victory.
Shea earned the hat trick, with two of the goals coming on penalty kicks. McNeal and Wright each added goals and Bouchard collected an assist.
Aryan Bawa, Keegan Bell, Eliot Sleeper and Edison Sleeper were strong on the defensive end and Jace Violette, Jacob Walton and Belanger were solid in the field, according to Perreault.
Micah Daigle knocked in two goals and Cayden Ala added one for Fort Fairfield.
