LIMESTONE, Maine – Clayton H. Kelley, 79, husband of the late Carol J. (Knight) Kelley, passed away Thursday morning, August 30, 2018 at this Limestone residence, following an extended illness. He was born August 7, 1939 in Limestone, the son of John E. and Gladys Jeannette (Bell) Kelley. He attended Caswell and Limestone schools and was married to Carol J. Knight on November 13, 1959. Clayton had been employed at the former Loring Air Force Base Tank Farm, and the Limestone Police Department for a number of years. He served with the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Department for thirty-two years, and owned and operated Kelley’s Gun Shop in Limestone for twenty-two years. Clayton served with the Maine National Guard and the Army Ready Reserves for several years. He was a member of the Limestone American Legion O’bar-Phair Post Number 127, the Maine State American Legion, the Limestone Rotary Club, the Fort Fairfield Rifle and Pistol Club, and a life member of the National Rifle Association. Clayton was predeceased by his father, John E. Kelley; his stepfather, Al Campbell; his wife Carol J. Kelley on January 27, 2017. He is survived by his mother, Gladys Jeannette Campbell of Caribou; three sons, Christopher P. Kelley and his companion Marsha Nichols of Limington, Charles H. “Chuck” Kelley and his wife Jo-Ellen of Limestone, Scott A. Kelley and his wife Kari of Standish; two sisters. Carolyn Witham of Limestone, Juanita “Sally” Sullivan of Nottingham, NH; two grand children, Riley Jean Kelley and her fiancé Garrett of Sanford, Garrett Troy Kelley and his companion Chelsea of Biddeford. He also leaves behind a special aunt, Noni O’Neal; and a dear lifelong friend, Lauren “Bud” Finnemore, both of Caswell; several nieces and nephews. Friends may call Monday, September 3, 2018 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield, where a service to celebrate Clayton’s life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Robert Amuzzini officiating. Interment will follow at Webster Cemetery, Limestone. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held after the interment service at Clayton’s home, 61 Access Highway, Limestone.
