PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Andre Rossignol scored three different ways, all in the second half, to lift the University of Maine at Presque Isle to a 3-1 victory over UM-Machias at Park Family Field Wednesday.
With his team trailing 1-0, the freshman from Van Buren scored on a header in the 60th minute, on a 20-yard blast 39 seconds later and then on penalty kick with less than 13 minutes left to help the Owls’ to their second consecutive win. They are now 2-1 on the young season.
Stephen Cochrane assisted on the first goal. UMPI goalkeeper Caleb Thompson saved five shots in the contest.
Alvaro Saldana scored the UMM goal early in the second half. The Clippers fell to 0-2.
The UMPI women led their game at halftime, but the visitors from UMM stormed back and scored seven unanswered goals after intermission for the 7-1 win.
Jordi Legassie gave the Owls the lead 6:30 into the match and goalkeeper Alexis Levesque and the UMPI defense were solid in keeping the Clippers off the scoreboard in the first half.
UMM freshmen Amber Chasse and Morgan Doughty struck for two goals each, while Dawn Johnson, Elana Lancia and Josie Griffin added one apiece for the 3-0 winners.
Levesque made 15 saves for the 0-2 Owls.
The game was a rematch of a Sept. 1 contest played in Machias, won by the Clippers by the same 7-1 score.
