HOULTON, Maine — The Houlton golf team continues to make strides on the golf course as the Shires now boast an impressive 12-1 record on the year. The Shires fell for the first time on the links Friday against Mount Desert Island, but rebounded nicely with two wins Monday over Hodgdon and Greenville.
At Houlton Community Golf Course Monday, the Shires shot a 161 to pick up wins over Hodgdon (256) and Greenville (259).
Individual results for Houlton were: Duncan McCormack, Isaac Vega and Wyatt Harvey each with a 40; Nick Brewer, 41; Collin Moody, 42; Rhetta Vega, 50; Garrett Harvey, 52; and Sydney Lorom, 58
For Hodgdon, Brian Barton shot a 53; Elijah Matheson, 60; Nathan Tuttle, 64; and Lucas Matheson, 79.
At Pine Hill Golf Course in Brewer Friday, Houlton fired a 165, finishing behind MDI (158). Other team scores were Mattanawcook Academy 175 and John Bapst 177. For the Shires, W. Harvey shot a 40; I. Vega, 41 and McCormack, both 41; Moody, 43; R.Vega, 44; and Lorom 52.
At Old Town Tuesday, Sept. 4, Houlton (172) beat squads from Old Town (195) and Dexter (218). Houlton scorers were Brewer, I. Vega and Moody, each with a 42; R. Vega and McCormack, both 46; G. Harvey, 48; W. Harvey, 49; Lorom, 53; Kye Flewelling, 61; Kollin Irish and Ryder Graham, both 63; and Matt Seder, 64.
“Everyone is contributing,” Houlton coach Dave Grant said. “It seems it is always someone different every match who steps up. It’s been a great season so far, but still a long way to go.”

Ashland 10, Hodgdon 1 — At Ashland Friday, Ashland shot 220, while Hodgdon fired a 255. Hodgdon was lead by Barton, 53, followed by Tuttle, 63, E. Matheson, 66, and L. Matheson, 73.
Central Aroostook 10, Hodgdon 1 — At Mars Hill Sept. 5, CA shot a 226, while the Hawks shot 242. Hodgdon scores were Tuttle, 50; Barton, 54; E. Matheson, 64; and L. Matheson, 74.+
