To the editor:
I was saddened today to learn of the passing of Gerald Jackins [of Houlton]. He was a classic “Northern Maine all-around good guy.”
We met, working together at J.C. Penney in 1959, where he was a joy to spend time with. He loved talking with everyone about his family, cottage at Brackett Lake, hunting, fishing, fiddleheading, the family-owned apartments, and the stock market.
Although my family moved to Connecticut in 1961, we spoke and met frequently over the next 57 years. He will be remembered and a kind, gentle, honest, hardworking, caring “Aroostook County legend.”
Till we meet again, Gerald, may God rest your soul, and be well.
