PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Madison Michaud joined an elite group of Maine high school soccer players Saturday.
The Presque Isle High School senior striker became one of only 19 female players in the state ever to reach the 100-goal mark for a career. She achieved that milestone by scoring three times in a 4-2 victory at Foxcroft Academy and now has 101 for her career.
She joins Mackenzie Worcester of Washburn (153), Mackenzie Carter of Ashland (112) and Parise Rossignol (116) and Sarah Roy (104), both of Van Buren, as the only players from Aroostook County to reach 100 goals, according to the Maine Soccer Coaches website.
She has nine regular season matches remaining, plus any playoff matches the team participates in, to add to her already impressive total.
Nineteen more goals will put her into the all-time top five in Maine schoolgirl soccer history.
“From the time I saw her play in middle school, I knew she was going to be special,” said her coach, Ralph Michaud, “but who knew she was going to be this special?
“But she works on her game in the off-season and she has free reign on the field from her teammates and coaches,” he added.
Madison Michaud said she is very proud of the achievement and that credit goes to a lot of others.
“I’m really thankful for all of my teammates and coaches who have helped me along the way,” she said, “and thankful for my family for helping make all of this possible.”
She said 100 goals is something she has strived for since her freshman season, and “I have trained hard ever since.”
“Throughout high school, I’ve played soccer all year long to better myself for my team and for my future college career,” Michaud added. “This is amazing and I feel really humbled and blessed.”
