The hot weather this past week resulted in some scorchers for boys and girls soccer matches. The following is a recap of games played through Monday.
Girls soccer
Ashland 5, Fort Fairfield 1 — Shelby Stolze scored three goals and Gabby Ayotte and Kassandra Nelson had one each as the Hornets downed the Tigers in Ashland Sept. 11. Ayotte and Nelson each garnered two assists and Olivia Tardie added one. Goalkeepers Valerie Burby and Reagan Libby combined for four saves on seven shots.
Sarah McShea scored for Fort Fairfield off a Cammi King assist and goalkeepers Shantelle Simon and Emily Greene combined for eight saves on 25 shots.
Southern Aroostook 10, Van Buren 0 — At Van Buren Tuesday, Sept. 11, the Warriors rolled to the shutout.
Kylie Vining and Makaelyn Porter each had two goals to lead the Warriors, while Aliyah Morales, Kassidy Mathers, Paige Vose, Emily Skinner, Jordyn Legassey and Hannah Brown each had one goal.
Hodgdon 5, Washburn 2 — On Thursday in Hodgdon, Emma Drew put in a pair of goals and teammates Sabra Scott, Mikyla Howland and Erin Peters each netted one as the Hawks avenged an early-season loss to the Beavers. Autumn Ganzel made 10 saves for Hodgdon.
Kyli Farley and Kassie Farley were the goal scorers for the Beavers. Teammate Trinity Saucier collected 15 saves in goal.
Fort Fairfield 4, Easton 0 — Kennedy Bencivenga’s two goals powered the Tigers to the home win over the Bears Thursday. Camryn Ala and Kourtney West both registered a goal and an assist and Kira Rogers also notched an assist. Caijsa Benson was the winning goalkeeper with four saves and Eva Callioras made 11 saves for Easton.
Wisdom 3, MSSM 2 — The Pioneers moved to 5-2-1 and the Penguins fell to 0-2 following Thursday’s meeting in St. Agatha. No game details were reported.
Houlton 10, Lee Academy 0 — At Houlton Friday, the Shires rolled to their fourth straight victory to remain undefeated. Breanna Barton booted in four goals, while Jamie Brown and Becca Howe both added two goals, and Samantha Johnson and Victoria Forbush each had one.
In goal for the Shires, Tessa Solomon had two saves on four shots, including blocking a penalty kick in the second half.
Presque Isle 4, Foxcroft Academy 2 — Madison Michaud scored three goals and Libby Moreau had the other as the Wildcats remained undefeated following Saturday’s victory in Dover-Foxcroft. Clara Kohlbacher assisted on Moreau’s goal and goalkeeper Rebecca Rider made 10 saves.
Hermon 4, Caribou 2 — Willow Whitten converted an Olivia Picard assist and Emily Adler tallied an unassisted goal, but Caribou fell at home to Hermon Saturday. Sage Dubay had six saves on 12 shots in goal for the Vikes.
Madawaska 9, Katahdin 1 — At Madawaska Saturday, Emily Beyer tallied the lone goal for Katahdin off an assist from Hannah Kyllonen. Nikita Keim had nine saves on 20 shots for the Cougars.
Jenna Dugal had five goals to lead the Owls.
Van Buren 3, Easton 1 — Kaylee Boyce scored the Bears’ lone goal Monday in the home loss to the Crusaders.
Central Aroostook 7, Fort Fairfield 0 — Mackenzie Blackstone had a breakthrough effort with three goals as the Panthers blanked the Tigers in Mars Hill Monday. Kate Levesque had two goals and Amy Gerretson and Kayla Martin one each for the winners. Brea Bradbury set up a pair of goals, while Martin and Levesque each added assists.
Olivia Blackstone had the shutout in goal with five saves on 11 shots. Caijsa Benson of Fort Fairfield collected three saves while facing 22 shots.
Southern Aroostook 7, Hodgdon 0 — At Dyer Brook Monday, the Warriors rolled to their second straight shutout. Vining and Vose both had two goals, while Porter, Legassey and Emma Nadeau each had one.
Boys soccer
Fort Fairfield 3, Ashland 2 — Avery Cormier scored the game-winning goal in overtime Sept. 11 in Ashland. Cormier scored earlier in the match and Isaiah Milliard had the Tigers’ other goal. Alex Oakes had two assists and Chase Coiley one for Fort Fairfield. Goalkeeper Kobe West had nine saves on 14 shots.
Dylan Haley and Sam Craig each scored for Ashland and Brady Holmes picked up an assist. Garrett Tilley saved four of nine shots in goal for the Hornets.
Van Buren 11, Southern Aroostook 1 — At Van Buren Tuesday, Sept. 11, Xavier Morales scored the goal for Southern Aroostook. Matthew Burgess and Henry Hebert each had three goals to lead Van Buren. Noah Pelletier added two goals and Luc Perreault, Brady LaPlante and Aidan Staynco each had one goal.
Hodgdon 5, Washburn 3 — At Hodgdon Thursday, Josh Palmer exploded for four goals and Jesse Frederick had the other as the Hawks prevailed. Josh Foster picked up four assists and Palmer one.

Michael Sanders made five saves on seven shots and Josh Foster had four saves on eight shots as the duo shared goaltending duties for Hodgdon.
Angel Taveras and Jovanni Taveras registered a goal and an assist and Jacob Maynard also scored a goal for the Beavers. Beckham Vaughn had nine saves on 20 shots.
Easton 5, Fort Fairfield 1 — The Bears got a hat trick from Seth Faloon Thursday, leading the visitors to the win. Mitchell Flewelling and Paul Bonner had a goal each, Kooper Kinney and Isaac Currier an assist each and Kody Carter handled the goalkeeping responsibilities. For the Tigers, Chase Coiley scored and Kobe West was in goal.
Wisdom 5, MSSM 1 — Ryan Fitzmaurice scored off a Harrison Walters assist for MSSM’s lone goal at St. Agatha Thursday.
Houlton 5, Lee Academy 0 — At Houlton Friday, Keegan Gentle scored three goals, while Jaron Gentle and Nolan Porter each had one to lead the Shires. Ben Grant had two assists, while Jadon Gentle and Alex Wilde each had one assist.
Drew Foley made three saves in goal for the Shires.

Caribou 4, Hermon 1 — Three goals by Alex Ezzy helped power the Vikings to Saturday’s home win over previously-unbeaten Hermon. Two of Ezzy’s goals were assisted by Cullin Caverhill. Ethan Holdsworth also scored off a Caverhill feed and Noah Hixon saved four of seven shots in goal for the winners, who moved into first place in Class B North.
Easton 5, Van Buren 0 — Seth Faloon had another hat trick Monday as the Bears won their third consecutive game and sixth of their last seven. Isaac Currier and Madison Bubar each had goals and Mitchell Flewelling had two assists and Kooper Kinney one. Kody Carter’s three saves were enough for the shutout in goal.
Central Aroostook 9, Fort Fairfield 1 — Hunter Wardwell scored four times as the Panthers moved to 9-0 and stayed in first place in Class D North with the lopsided home victory. Hayden Kingsbury and Ben Thomas had two goals each and Bryan Anthony also scored for CA. Dawson Watson scored the Tigers’ goal.
Madawaska 3, Katahdin 0 — At Madawaska Saturday, Katahdin was shutout by the Owls. Individual results were not reported.
Houlton 14, Mattanawcook Academy 0 — At Houlton Monday, Jaron Gentle led the Shires with four goals, while Keegan Gentle added three, Alex Wilde two, and one each for Isaiah Gentle, Cameron Cram, Logan Swallow and Nolan Porter. Wilde had four assists and Cram added two. Porter, Jayson Gentle, Jaron Gentle and Keegan Gentle each had one assist.
Drew Foley made three saves on eight shots on goal. Griffin Coburn had four saves on 36 shots on goal.
Hodgdon 3, Southern Aroostook 2 — At Dyer Brook Monday, Hodgdon denied the Warriors attempt to get their first win of the season. All five goals came in the first half of play.
For Hodgdon, Josh Foster booted in two goals and Josh Palmer added one goal and had an assist. Michael Saunders made seven saves on 11 shots.
For the Warriors, Gavin Vining and Brett Williams each scored unassisted goals. Jacob Brooks had nine saves on 17 shots for the Warriors.
“This was our first game where we didn’t play short and had most of our roster available,” SA coach Paul Sherman said. “So, we were competitive. We gave up a lot of dangerous chances to Hodgdon’s forwards in the first half, but played a tighter game and controlled the ball better in the second half. Hodgdon had much the better of play in the first half but the game was much more evenly matched in the second.”
